Heritage Walk: Union Street, Woodmancote and Uley Road

Map to start point:
A slow walk starting from Dursley town centre with frequent stops to look at some of the town’s old buildings and other locations with a focus on their history. The route will take in Union Street, Upper Poole Road, Woodmancote, Rosebery Road, Highfields, Uley Road and Ferney. Much of the walk will be on pavements and streets but some will be off road so it may be a bit uneven at times. There will also be some gradients (steep in places) to negotiate so it won’t all be level!
We’ll take a look at the area where Dursley workhouse used to stand, see some of the country’s earliest council houses and take a look at some of the graves in St. Mark’s Church. We’ll then head off along Woodmancote, making our way eventually to Uley Road, passing through the site once occupied by Mawdsley’s. From there we’ll head towards Ferney and then back to the town centre. The Dursley Walking Festival always ends with tea and cakes in the Methodist church hall from 3 pm.

Dogs are not permitted on the walk, except for registered assistance dogs. This is for the comfort and safety of all the walkers in the group.

Accommodation
If you need somewhere to stay during the festival, contact the Ashen Plains campsite. They have pitches for tents and caravans and also shepherd hut style accommodation.

Our goal is to provide a free walking festival for the local community and visitors to our beautiful countryside. We also work on projects throughout the year to improve access to walking activities.
