Details of the walk:

This walk first took shape in the lead up to Christian Aid week May 2021. The focus of their campaign for that years appeal was access to water and the fact that in the developing world the average distance travelled to get water is around 8km/5 Miles.

The linear walk starts at the Cam & Dursley Railway Station and is a mix of field walking with stiles and some urban terrain. It can be muddy and slippery if wet. We will explore the waterways of Cam and Dursley and discuss how they have shaped the growth of a settlement and provided for industry. There are some interesting historical facts to uncover along the way about the importance that water has had on the local history and growth of this area. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the climate change pressures that we are seeing not just locally but globally.

We will have a 30 minute break in Dursley to have refreshments and a comfort break, before completing the Dursley loop of the walk and finishing at Broadwell, very close to centre of Dursley.

We will be just in time for tea and cakes at the Methodist Church hall afterwards. Should walkers park at the Railway Station for the start they will need to find their own way back from Dursley.

Special areas of interest:
The Dursley Walking Festival always ends with tea and cakes in the Methodist church hall. Our walk will be timed to finish when they start serving at 3pm.
Please note the following information for this walk:
  • No Dogs please, except for registered assistance dogs
  • Please bring drinks and refreshments
  • Please bring a packed lunch
